The value-added benefits from a performance-based fire safety engineering design approach are normally derived from applying solutions from more fundamental engineering principles to provide design alternatives to code-based prescriptive methods. This would normally apply to design situations for which code-based design are relatively new or are relatively conservative. The conservatisms from code-based methods are necessary for them to be applied over broad range of design situations. Hence particular design for specific design circumstances allow for some of these conservatisms to be reduced to more cost-effective solutions.
Understanding Fire Code
On the basis of our capabilities and understanding of the principles in the fire code requirements, we have developed good working relationships with the regulatory fire safety officers locally.
From Knowledge to Practical
Our high capability in the understanding of the basis of fire safety provisions is also useful in explaining the reasons and justifications for the design to facilitate approvals as well as to provide a useful mechanism in the transfer of technical knowledge.
